CLAUSES/ อนุประโยค
	QUESTION: clause/ อนุประโยค คืออะไร มันต่างกับ phrase วลีอย่างไร? ANSWER:
	Clause คือ กลุ่มของคำ ซึ่งรวมกันเพื่อสือความหมาย โดยมีส่วนประกอบหลักๆ 2 ส่วนคือ 1. Subject = ประธาน คือผู้กระทำ/แสดงการกระทำ 2. Predicate = ส่วนขยายแสดงกริยาและกรรมของประธาน เช่น
	Subject	Predicate
	We	enjoy playing cricket. = 1 independent clause = 1 sentence
	Phrase คือ คำหรือกลุ่มของคำ ซึ่งรวมกันเพื่อทำหน้าที่ใดหน้าที่หนึ่งในประโยค แต่ไม่มี verb ประกอบ เช่น John was a poet, a teacher of philosophy, and a man with a terrible recent history. จะเห็นได้ว่าทั้ง 2 phrase ไม่มีกริยาแสดงอยู่เลย ในขณะที่ clause จะมีกริยาแสดงอยู่เสมอ

SENTENCE SCREENING/ การแยกประโยคออกจาก ย่อหน้า

   ในการอ่านบทความให้รู้เรื่องนั้น จำเป็นจะต้องมี ความรู้พื้นฐานในการ แยกแยะประโยคต่างๆ (Sentences) ที่ประกอบกันอยู่ใน ย่อหน้า (Paragraph) เพื่อง่ายต่อการตีความ และหาใจความหลักที่สื่ออยู่ใน ย่อหน้านั้นๆ

PARAGRAPH =
= SENTENCE 1 +  SENTENCE 2 + SENTENCE 3 + SENTENCE 4 +...........

QUESTION: ประโยคภาษาอังกฤษ (sentence) มีได้กี่ประเภทละ?
ANSWER: เราสามารถแบ่งประโยคออกเป็น 4 ชนิดคือ

1. Basic/Simple Sentence ประโยคเดี่ยวพื้นฐาน ซึ่งจะประกอบด้วย 1 อนุประโยค (Clause)

   Sentence = 1 Independent Clause

e.g.1.1 The boy was happy. (1 clause)

     1.2 The boy ate the sweets greedily. (1 clause)

     1.3 My father, being tired, fell asleep. (1 clause)

     1.4 In 1985, the President opened the new building with much pleasure. (1 clause)

     1.5 Anti-alcohol policies hurt the economy by driving drinkers into private settings.

     1.6 China has tried hard to keep Han Dongfang from communicating
     with the Chinese people. (1 clause)

     1.7 At the Emic family's ranch near Lamar, Colorado, wind turbines produces 162MW
     of power right alongside grazing cattle. (1 clause)

2. Compound Sentence ประโยคผสม
   ซึ่งเป็นการผสมรวมกันของ อนุประโยคเดี่ยวตั้งแต่ 2 อนุประโยค เชื่อมต่อกันโดย Co-ordinating Conjunctions (เช่น and, or, so, but, ; )

Sentence = Independent Clause + Independent Clause

e.g.2.1 I agreed and I joined the party. (2 clauses)

     2.2 I agreed; I joined the party; my friend was pleased. (3 clauses)

     2.3 The boy ate the sweets and his mother was angry. (2 clauses)

     2.4 France Telecom and Deutsch Telekom are state-controlled but Britain's BT and
     Spain's Telefonica are public companies. (4 clauses)

3. Complex Sentence ประโยคซ้อน
   ซึ่งเป็นการซ้อนรวมกันของ 1อนุประโยคเดี่ยวซึ่งทำหน้าที่เป็น Main Clause กับอนุประโยคซ้อน ตั้งแต่ 1 ขึ้นไป ที่ทำหน้าที่เป็น Subordinate Clauseในการอาศัย/อธิบายความของประโยค Main Clause ปกติประโยคประเภทนี้จะเชื่อมต่อกันโดย Subordinate Conjunctions (เช่น if, that, because, so that, although, as, before, Relative Pronouns ทั้งหลาย, how)

Sentence = Independent Clause + Dependent Clause

e.g.3.1 I went home because I was tired. ( 1 Ind + 1 Dep)

     3.2 The President would be please if the general joined him. (1 Ind + 1Dep)

     3.3 He came to see us as promptly as he could. (1 Ind + 1Dep)

     3.4 John was pleased when he heard that his wife had arrived.
            (1 Ind + 2 Dep)

     3.5 Everyone was happy because the girl found the dog that had been lost.
            (1 Ind + 2 Dep)

     3.6 When the train arrived I saw the man who had been invited.
            (1 Dep + 1 Ind + 1 Dep)

     3.7 Arguing against anti-alcohol policies, a new study published in the Journal of
         Labor Research found that alcohol drinkers earn 10 to 14% more than teetotallers.
            (1 Dep + 1 Ind )
     3.8 As much as American might prefer a world with one big threat and one simple
          formula for fighting it--Islamofascism as the successor to Nazism and
         Communism--that is just not the world ~~that~~ we live in.
           (1 Ind + 1 Dep + 1 Dep)

4. Compound-Complex Sentence ประโยคผสม ประโยคซ้อน
   เป็นการผสมรวมกันของ อนุประโยคเดี่ยวตั้งแต่ 2 ประโยคขึ้นไป ซึ่งทำหน้าที่เป็น Main Clause ทั้ง 2    อนุประโยค ทั้งยังมีการแทรกโดย อนุประโยคซ้อน ตั้งแต่ 1 ขึ้นไปอีกที ที่ทำหน้าที่เป็น Subordinate    Clauseในการอาศัย/อธิบายความของประโยค Main Clause

Sentence = Independent Clause + Independent Clause + Dependent Clause + ......

e.g.4.1 As soon as I arrived I met my friend and he told me where he was going.
            (1 Dep + 1 Ind + 1 Ind + 1 Dep)

     4.2 Because the work was finished they went to the office and asked for the money
          ~~that~~ they had earned. (1 Dep + 1 Ind + 1 Ind + 1 Dep )

     4.3 Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld seemed to be a particular target of
          Bob Woodward, the veteran Washington Post reporter, who remain the
         best excavator of inside stories in the nation's capital but the President
         did not care. (1 Ind + 1 Dep + 1 Ind)

  4.4 While congressmen caught in a sex scandal is nothing new, the way ~~that~~
          the strory broke shows the power of Internet and few people may have
         been aware that instant messages can be saved and copied.
         (1 Dep + 1 Dep + 1 Ind + 1 Ind + 1 Dep)
